Cornerstone Bank partnered with Becker College to hire a small team of specially selected developers. They wanted to create a mobile game that would attract young adults and teach them about the many benefits of financial planning and investing. This was the first game studio I was a part of at Becker College and as the sole game design intern on the team, I was nervous yet excited to showcase my abilities. Tasked with designing a game that could achieve what our partners were looking for, I communicated my ideas through documentation and presentations with the goal of getting support from our leads. After doing so, I collaborated with our producer to establish clear project goals and ensure everyone understood them in order to meet deadlines. Throughout development, I coordinated extensive play-testing, reviews and iteration of the game’s UI/UX to work through technical problems and develop solutions.

I played a major role in designing multiple iterations of Planet Prospector’s UI and UX. I designed and documented the level progression system for mining, farming and exotics. This allowed players to upgrade each industry with modifiers to gain bonus experience points and increase yield. One of the difficulties I found was displaying this progression system along with the various resources and statistics made available to players in a clear and intuitive manner. Also, because this game can be played on various devices with different screen sizes it was important to create responsive UI that works well across a range of platforms. I organized this information in a hierarchical structure, with broader categories at the top and more specific details as sub-menus. Players can drag each menu up or down to access or hide additional information.
